The SciTS 2020 Program Committee welcomes your abstract submissions for workshops, individual presentations, and research posters. Please note that the submission deadline is earlier than in years past! The submission period is from October 1st, 2019 to January 15th, 2020. All abstract submissions should use the online submission form.


  • Abstracts due: January 15th, 2020 at 11:59pm EST (Eastern Standard Time).
  • Workshop notification: February 17th, 2020
  • Individual presentation notification: March 2nd, 2020


Building off over a decade of establishing the Science of Team Science, the 2020 conference will focus on highlighting and pursuing excellence in studying, doing, and teaching Team Science.

When submitting your abstract, you will be asked for your preferred format.

Individual Presentation

Traditional Oral Presentation

Oral presentations provide authors the opportunity to present original work related to conference topics.

  • Duration: 15-minute presentation, 5-minute Q&A
  • Format and Scheduling: Presentations will be cluster scheduled into sessions based on theme. Each session will include four individual presentations.
  • Submissions may represent original empirical research, theoretical development, or reviews.
  • Submissions should use the Abstract Template.

Round Robin Presentation & Discussions

This unique presentation format is new to SciTS this year and will provide authors the opportunity to obtain feedback from multiple, small-group audiences that rotate through speakers during the 90-minute session.

  • Duration: 8-minute presentation, 7-minute Feedback/Discussion/Q&A
  • Format and Scheduling: Audience members will move between tables of presenters at the direction of the moderator. Each session will include five individual presentations and time for questions from the audience.
  • Submissions may represent original empirical research, theoretical development, reviews, in an “elevator-pitch" style.
  • Submissions should utilize the Abstract Template.
  • All individual submissions will be considered for round robin presentation if not accepted for their preferred submission type.

Symposium - Linked Submissions

The SciTS2020 Program Committee is pleased to announce it will now accept “linked submissions” for a dedicated session or “symposium” on your topic of interest. If you’ve got a group of contributors who are all interested in submitting abstracts on a connected topic, and would like to propose a symposium, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Submit each of the abstracts separately via the abstract submission form
  2. Send an email to [email protected] with:
    1. The title of your proposed symposium,
    2. Titles of each of the abstracts to be included,
    3. Authors of abstracts to be included. 

We envisage linked sessions featuring 3-4 presenters, for a maximum session duration of 80-90 minutes.

Research Posters

An interactive poster session provides a forum for authors to display and discuss their work one-on-one.

  • Posters will be displayed throughout the conference in a dedicated space that is accessible to conference attendees while the conference is in session.
  • Formal poster session duration: 90-minutes
  • Submissions may represent original empirical research, or theoretical development.
  • Poster submissions should use the Abstract Template format.
  • All individual submissions will be considered for poster presentation if not accepted for their preferred submission type.


Workshops provide individual or group presenters the opportunity to present special interest workshops and seminars of original work in an interactive setting related to conference topics. 

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Format: Workshop/seminar proposals that incorporate a variety of instructional approaches (e.g. lecture, interactive discussion, hands-on exercises) and materials (e.g. slides, handouts, sample data) are strongly encouraged.
  • Content: All topics relevant to the application of Science of Team Science approaches are welcomed, specifically with respect to training sessions that will equip SciTS investigators with tools and technical skills for data collection, analysis, or presentation in their research areas. We encourage workshops or seminars with a focus on methodologies including systems approaches to the field of SciTS as well as methodologies for conducting evaluation and understanding team dynamics. Furthermore, we welcome workshops and seminars that provide practical guidance for conducting and managing team science in a variety of contexts and settings, and workshops with a focus on developing team science educational and training resources.
  • Workshop Template:
    • Proposed title and organizers (names, affiliations, email; identify one primary contact person)
    • Description of workshop: objectives (at least 3), goals, and expected outcomes
    • Statement regarding how the workshop can benefit SciTS attendees/community
    • Description of target audience and estimated number of participants (minimum and maximum)
    • Proposed workshop format, activities, and schedule
    • Any special A/V needs
    • Short biographical sketch for each presenter, describing relevant experience and qualifications (not included in page limit)

INSciTS Special Interest Group (SIG) Panel (Limited Submission)

INSciTS Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are member-led groups that provide a “home within a home” for INSciTS members to connect and collaborate with colleagues who have shared interests in the SciTS field. We invite each SIG (listed below) to submit one Panel proposal; please work with your SIG Chair & Co-Chair if you have suggestions for Panel topics. The selection committee reserves the right to propose alternative presentation formats.


  • Presenting authors are responsible for registration, travel, and hotel costs.
  • Any presenter who is unable to attend should arrange for another qualified individual to present the submitted paper/poster. If such a change is necessary, please notify our conference team.


Poster awards will be given in two categories:  Meritorious Contribution and Emerging Scholar (current graduate students or within 5 years of receiving a PhD). Posters will be judged during the poster session by a diverse team of judges based on the following criteria:

Approach: How rigorous are the research methods or conceptual approach used? For translational products (e.g. policies), how empirically driven is the work?

Clarity: How clear are the poster’s communication concepts, processes, and results? For instance, does it contain jargon, define terms, and explain acronyms? Does the poster use a design that is easy for viewers to read and follow?

Relevance: How relevant is the poster to the Science of Team Science (SciTS) field? Does the content directly address the work or outputs of science teams or contexts/policies that directly relate to science teams?

Innovation: How original and innovative is the work and the poster? For example, does it significantly advance current thinking, or challenge existing paradigms or practice? For empirical research, does it address an innovative hypothesis, explore new applications of theories, apply novel disciplinary approaches, or use innovative research methods or technologies?
