Vision and Mission of the Society
Vision
To grow a global community of solving complex challenges through team science.
Mission
INSciTS bridges research and practice by cultivating a robust and accessible evidence base that advance cross-disciplinary team science for real world impact.
Qualifications
Qualifications for serving on the Board of Directors encompass a number of factors, including:
- Active support and/or service to INSciTS (e.g., service on committees, working groups, or other efforts on behalf of the organization and/or a commitment to advancing INSciTS priorities in professional or scholarly work). While conference presentations are highly valuable to the organization, they do not in and of themselves constitute active support of the organization or demonstrate an individual has knowledge of how INSciTS operates and how its mission is served.
- Experience that demonstrates deep knowledge of the Science of Team Science (SciTS) field and/or practice, including, but not limited to: research on science teams, experience in the delivery of team science training, interventions, evaluation, and the general translation and application of team science knowledge.
- Experience serving on a nonprofit board or providing other forms of organizational leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well and work collaboratively.
Expectations
- The expectations for INSciTS Board members are significant in terms of time and effort. Members are expected to actively participate in the Board, head committees, and pursue activities that advance the INSciTS mission and goals. The Board meets once a month throughout the year and at the annual INSciTS conference. Attendance is required barring mitigating circumstances. Monthly meetings are held via conference call at times agreed upon by the team.
- The time requirement for Board members averages 10 to 12 hours per month.
- The Board of Directors elects Officers (President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer) from within the ranks of the Board. These four officers and the immediate Past-President constitute the Executive Committee, which meets monthly in between full Board meetings.
President
- The President of INSciTS is the highest ranking officer of the Network and is directly accountable to the membership and the Board. The President leads the Board of Directors in development of the strategic goals and objectives of the organization and provides direction and leadership. The President serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Annual General Meetings.
President-Elect
- The President-Elect is the second highest ranking officer of the Network and shall support the President to advance the work of the Network. At the end of the term, the President-Elect shall assume the office as President of the Network. In the event that the President is temporarily unable to fulfill their duties to the Association, the President-Elect may be appointed Acting President by the Board of Directors. If the President resigns or is unable to fulfill their duties for an extended period, the President-Elect shall become the President and a new President-Elect shall be elected by a majority vote in a special election of the Board of Directors within 30 days. Both officers will serve out the term of the individuals they replace followed by a full term in the same position if the remaining term when vacancy arises was 16 months or less. If the President-Elect resigns or is unable to fulfill their duties for an extended period, a new President-Elect shall be elected by a majority vote in a special election of the Board of Directors within 30 days.
Secretary
- The Secretary oversees the recording of proceedings of meetings of the Network and the Board of Directors and is responsible for the Network's correspondence. If the Secretary resigns or is unable to fulfill their duties for an extended period, a new Secretary shall be elected by a majority vote in a special election of the Board of Directors within 30 days. The new Secretary will serve out the term of the individual they replace and has the option of running for the same position if the remaining term of service was 16 months or less.
Treasurer
- The Treasurer shall have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the Corporation, oversee transactions by the Association Manager, and be responsible for the administration and oversight of the Corporation's financial records, and compliance with statutory reporting requirements, filing of tax returns, and tax payments. If the Treasurer resigns or is unable to fulfill their duties for an extended period, a new Treasurer shall be elected by a majority vote in a special election of the Board of Directors within 30 days. The new Treasurer will serve out the term of the individual they replace and has the option of running for the same position if the remaining term of service was 16 months or less.
Selection Criteria
The Nominating Committee will evaluate applicants for the ballot based on the following criteria:
- Potential of applicants to serve INSciTS effectively, as reflected in their application materials and other evidence such as their description of interests in serving on the Board and the contributions the candidates think they can make, their specific goals for INSciTS, and why they think they would make a good candidate.
- Diversity of Board members is highly desirable, although there are no formal requirements. INSciTS strived to compile a Board that is diversified and represents our societies demographics.
- Diversity of institution type, location, size, focus, etc. is also highly desirable.
